For the rest of the week we spent our time location scouting collecting footage in gloomy isolated backgrounds, looking for the perfect place to shoot our post cards. We played around with different shot types: Long short, close up, Panning shot...we went to places such as the basement and dance studio to experiment with the mirror reflection. We also spent time helping out in the studio filming for other peoples postcards, sharing ideas and collecting equipment, prop hunting etc..
On Thursday we went out to Nottingham city center in groups with the cameras after watching a detailed video on the golden triangle e,g..
ISO
APERTURE
SHUTTER SPEED
We experimented with the different F stops... how ever big or small the number is depends on how much light the lens lets in meaning different numbers give different effects. We ended up photographing a lot of flowers and experimented with the different settings. We noticed the photographs came out a lot more effective with F/3.8 as it blurred the background rather than a number higher such as F/20 which allows more to be in the focal point. Because the smaller the number, the wider the lens.
We also tried changing the ISO depending on the F stop. An example of when you would need to change the ISO would be filming in dark poor light where the ISO would have to be higher meaning the lens is allowing more light to come in.
We also tried to vary the shutter speed again just playing around to create different effects. shutter speed is the measured time of the image. The moment between the opening and closing of the lens. For example when we were experimenting we were using cars and each other running, jumping and hair flipping. For this we needed a high shutter speed in order to capture the movement. Where as when we were photographing flowers etc the shutter speed can be lower.
