Presentation Notes:

Slide 1 - Mind map

Inspired by the contemporary

Text and visuals

Particularly the use of sound: Loud key bored clicks

Split screen

Fast pace changing visuals

Slide 2 - Researching installations

Inspired by the use of TV screens within still image and moving image

Visually pleasing

Something i would like to incorporate

Artist Research: Zina Saro Wiwa

Known for: Video art, film making, installations, documentaries, music videos etc

Piece is based on grief and mourning the loss of her husband

Really successful piece

Displayed in many exhibitions in america (NYC)

One take

Captures raw emotion and disturbing sound

Love the use of TV screens adds to the effect, over lapping sound

Sinister echo

Range of different angles and positions giving a different effect for different people depending on where you stand when you see it in exhibition

Dark atmosphere

Slide 3 - Anxiety

Lots of research surrounding the symptoms

Drew out onto the human body

Printed onto glass

Layered and over lapping

Displayed in front of the Sydney opera house

Symbolising the layers of anxiety

Needs to be talked about more to create awareness

Interviews - helped them come to terms that they are not alone

Slide 4 - Expands on anxiety

Inspired by the conversation we had in class where we all opened up about our personal experiences

This got me thinking

Speaking about it was very therapeutic for everyone

If everyone did this no one would feel as alone

Therefore, my idea was to create a piece based on someones point of view experiencing their personal symptoms that people may be able to relate to which will hopefully appeal to my audience

Intention: Raw, authentic, captivating...

Using techniques such as heightened sound like seen in Elizabeth price 'Felt tip'

Slide 5 - They say people are more likely to develop anxiety disorders if they have a close relative with it

Have history with a traumatic childhood experience for example:

  • Domestic abuse

  • Grief

  • Child abuse

  • Bullying

Having a painful health condition

Having a history with Drugs and Alcohol

Slide 6 - Target Audience

Research on who my idea could appeal to/ relate to

Women are twice as likely to experience anxiety than men - could suggest that my idea might be more suitable / popular with women perhaps

Only 43% receive treatment for their anxiety , proving how little people speak up about their struggle

This needs to change

25% of children experience anxiety

13-18 is my chosen demographic

Installations are usually more popular with under 35's which is another reason why i have chosen this demographic

Installations typically tend to be most popular with travelers, people who seek new experiences, are extroverted, confident and social

You could argue that my video installation idea may not be the best way to try and spread awareness to people that have anxiety, although, my choice of platform will be not only to exhibit my work in an exhibition but for it to be broadcasted across social media platforms e.g. before adverts etc

Slide 7: Legal research

Facebook / you-tube '30 seconds only' without getting copyrighted

Risk assessments

Lots of hazards

'LIKE A GIRL' Campaign notes:

Surveyed 1,300 american women between the ages of 16-24

discovering that more than half of the girls confidence dramatically drops at puberty

90% of people agreed that words can be harmful to their self confidence

Over 60% of people agreed they have had negative association with the phrase 'LIKE A GIRL'

Their aim is to steer away from the stigma around phrases like..

'Boys are stronger'

'Boys are braver'

'Boys are better at sport'

'Boys are better drivers'
