Editing Reflection

I decided to stick strictly to the story line shown in the original music video. My aim with the edit was to create a fast pace music video reflecting on deeper issues that viewers may be able to relate to. My intention was to create an intense build up with suspense in order for the viewers to feel empathy towards the actors and therefore connect deeper with the song lyrics.

My intention when shooting was to ensure I filmed as much as possible from every angle to imitate the action scenes seen in the original video. This adds emphasis and makes the shots look even more fast pace so that when it came to editing I had hundreds of shots to choose from and piece together the strongest ones and make the final cut.

This was planned as I intended to over film rather than under film allowing me to have a lot more freedom with the final edit. This meant that the editing process was a lot more difficult due to the fact i had hundreds of re takes for each scene to choose from with over an hour of footage and only 4 minutes and 29 seconds to fill. I therefore had to vigorously cut down each scene ensuring only the best shots were included.

Overall, I am very pleased with how my edit turned out. I feel as though the meaning comes across in my edit similarly to how it does in the original which is what i had hoped for when proposing my idea in my presentation. When I play both versions side by side there is clear similarity, particularly in pace. I tried to match the action to the lyrics as best as i could highlighting the message and telling the story.
