'Male Gaze' - Women in films and the media industry e.g. music video, are portrayed as sex objects to be 'gazed' upon, because 'sex sells'
Women characters are normally viewed as less important than male characters.
Three main objects - Women, Money, Cars...
Music videos and sexualising women
E.g. Katy Perry California girls
50 cent Candy shop
Women bodies are being used as props for their videos and as a result gaining more views.
My Research
Videos i found that were noticeably sexualising women
In this particular music video woman are sexually objectified as they are seen to be wearing little to nothing for no apparent reason while the men are fully dressed.
They are shown to be in odd sexual positions when doing normal activities such as being on the phone. She is also being sprayed with a hose while squatting down and she is acting like nothing is happening. The women all seem oblivious to anything going on and are seen smiling innocently.
There are over head shots of women straddling in short shorts and crop tops while he is singing 'I tell her to talk to me' 'i got one night for you baby'
This is a bad example for people watching as it is representing women in a bad light and praising how if men have 'money and women' they are winning as if to say these are the only objects you should need.
Once again, Cars and women are the main 'objects' seen throughout this entire videos with 'her body go vroom vroom vroom' this lyric is repeated throughout the chorus. This line is completely objectifying women as her 'body' is being compared to the sound of a car.
Also, there is only one type of body shape used within this video, every women has a distinctly hourglass curvy figure. The men are being danced on by the women and seem extremely happy about it representing this type of body is perfection.
The women are only dancing and posing while the men are holding them as if they are trophy's or objects looking at them with pride. There are no shots of them talking or having any sort of conversation presenting it normal to be acting this way with someone you have just met. There are many indecent close up shots throughout the video of women only.
'She got the body like a motor' - We all know that men who are into their cars are obsessive about what their cars sound like. This has been taken and been compared to a women's body shape and is extremely objectifying.
There is also a very distinct scene that screams 'sexism'.. While the singer sits in the front seat of the car he has been modeling on, there is a women's shoe and leg that appears coming from the backseat. We do not see her face for the rest of the video but it is clear that he is in the front while she is in the back portraying he holds power over her and is higher up.
