After tutorial time we went straight into further discussing video art and video installation. Video art is is a contemporary art form that combines video technology with installation, using all aspects of the surrounding environment to have impact on the the audience. Sound is just important as visuals when creating a video installation and the message behind them is not always obvious which is what makes them so fascinating to watch.

As part of our primary research we took a trip down to Nottingham contemporary. Where we could witness video installations first hand which gives off a completely different feel as appose to just watching a clip on YouTube. The art was displayed by being projected on to mesh which personally i really liked as you could see the transparency through it and it felt more realistic and impactful to watch. The installation 'split wall' we saw by Pia Camil was mesmerizing as each one was so out of the ordinary. I noticed that she used very delicate sound with the occasional crash or bang depending on what the video art was based on. The sudden sound was very intense and unexpected and grabs your attention. Even though it is hard to have a complete understanding behind the motive of the video this is what makes it so captivating to watch as each individual will have a different interpretation on the artists work. Other installations had music and its focal point was more on the movement in the video. It was really interesting to see the contrast in the different pieces by Pia Camil as they were all so different yet similar using the same model and came together as a collective really nicely.
