Artist of my choice- J.B. Ghuman, Jr.

I have chosen to look into the artist J.B. Ghuman, Jr. He is an american actor and director, known for Spork (2010). Also known for his short video installations. I have looked at a few of his video installations. One of which i have chosen to analyse bellow... I am really intrigued in his style. The video contains a woman pouring glitter (his wishes) on a mans drum, he is forcefully hitting the drum causing the glitter to fly everywhere. There are lots of aspects in this video installation that didn't make sense to me at first look. It causes you to thoroughly think about the meaning behind the visuals which is why i find it so interesting. Every-time i watch it a new idea / concept springs to mind in terms of the meaning behind the installation. This particular installation could have lots of different meanings and could mean completely different things to different people depending on how they interpret it.

The video has been edited in slow motion, it also zooms in gradually looking very smooth, so it is just the drum in shot for added impact. Therefore begins with a long shot and ends with a short shot.

RESEARCH

The concept behind this video seems very complex yet the visuals are so simple. In order to get an idea on how differently people interpret video installation I asked a few people to get some different opinions and ideas to help with primary research. My aim is to find out how an installation can have different effects on different people and mean more to some people than others. This can depend on a variety of different things such as age, gender, interests and personal experiences...

My outlook on the video is very positive. I actually really enjoy the installation because of the fact it is confusing and doesn't have a clear meaning. When i come to creating mine, i will use a similar concept where by it is not obvious what i am trying to get across and requires thinking.
